Latest News.... 11th January 2012

Friday 6th January Worcs CVL

Arden Griffins U16s beat Hereford 2 U16s 42-15. Despite being on the losing team, Hereford 2's coach praised his team, in particular Tom Bayliss who he described as 'awesome'. Marinos Papageorgiou showed good leadership skills in a win that took his team to the top of the table.

The closest game of the night was a 35-31 win for Wolves U16s against Hereford 1 U16s. In a match that was neck and neck throughout the Wolves held their nerve to atone for their 2-point defeat in December. Both Angus Flynn for Hereford and Matt Vicary for the Wolves were praised by their respective coaches for their scoring and rebounding skills.

With two more evenings of basketball before the Finals night, all three leagues (U12, U14, U16) are hotting up with most teams still well in contention for top spot.

Match report:

The new Under 15/16 squad travelled to Cirencester to take on the National League Team Gloster Jets in their first ever competitive match together. They faced a team that have regular games in a highly competitive league and the team struggled to retain possession of the ball under extreme pressure from Gloster's full court press. As the game progressed the Mavs became more and more confident and started to get to the hoop and score more frequently. It was also a good chance for the coaching staff to see the players temperament which was tested from the tip off. None of the squad let their heads drop and ignored the huge lead that the opposition had created, instead the players concentrated on what the coaches were saying and they themselves saw how the had improved throughout the game. It was a pleasure to see the majority of the team get on the scoresheet and work hard at both ends of the court.

Report by Head Coach Steve Farmer
