CommunityThe Hereford Mavericks Basketball Club work with the local schools in Hereford. Our aim is to instill leadership, sportsmanship and integrity skills in today's youth, using the game of basketball and positive role models to forge healthy minds and bodies. Our focus is to work closely with PE teachers in the community to develop and run basketball sessions and in the future various tournaments across the Herefordshire region. The sessions that we run are for players aged 10 years and upwards with a definate emphasis on FUN especially in the Under 13 age range. We encourage team activity, so that team philosophies as well as team and individual skills will be well-developed during training sessions. The Hereford Mavericks are strongly link to the local secondary schools where we have provided coaching to players and coaching and referee training to staff. Mavericks players are also involved in the Schools Basketball Finals day which helps promote the game. We have also worked with local youth services providing coaching away from the usual school setting. School eventsThe Mavs coaching staff have been going to lots of schools to help raise the profile and level of the game being played at Secondary School level. They are working with the teaching staff helping with the officiating of the games and passing on coaching tips to players and staff. The Hereford Mavs Senior players will be at all the final tournaments to help with the running of the event and to be part of the presentation party.
